I used to live in an area where people lost homes on the weekend due to fire.

It brought back to me the feelings of vulnerability that many people shared five years ago on Black Saturday in Victoria.

Not that my situation was anything like those who lost family and property and who still suffer. Those dear people suffered tremendously.

Yet I felt vulnerable. I guess most of us do when faced with natural and other disasters that are bigger than us.

Believing in God does not make me feel any less or be any less vulnerable.   Anyone who says that believing in God protects them from stuff that others endure is either delusional or peddling untruth.

Rather, what I get from believing in God is a deep seated sense that even in the worst situation he is there with me. It does not make me invincible but it does give me comfort, even if sometimes I am only just managing to hang on.
